What are the advantages of a wooden tub?

Each one of our wooden tubs is hand made from start to finish so the care and passion that we build into them can be felt every time you use it. Wooden hot tubs are traditional and simple in design yet they have a prominent place in modern life. They are beautiful in many ways, aesthetically, to the touch, the smell and the sound (or lack of!). There are more than enough mass produced ‘products’ in our lives and sometimes you just need to get away from it all, a wooden hot tub is your place of relaxation, your sanctuary. We can install our tubs almost anywhere so you can make full use of your garden, no matter how big or small. The bottom line is “wood is the ultimate construction material” and our customers appreciate this.

How do our wooden tubs hold in the water?

Quite simply, the quality of the joinery. There is no plastic lining, no fiberglass and no glue. When you fill the tub for the first time it takes around 48 hours for the wood to seal completely.

Why use a stainless steel internal boiler?

Two main reasons - The 2.5mm stainless steel boiler is highly durable and requires no maintenance. The only thing you have to do is empty the ashes when required. The boiler can be stoked without leaving the tub. This means that if you want to increase the temperature then all you have to do is lean over and grab some more wood from the storage bunker!

How do I monitor the temperature?

We can supply a wireless tub thermometer that allows you to monitor the temperature of the water from inside your house. Just stoke the boiler when it needs it and replace the lid.

How long will it take to heat up?

There are many factors that affect this - size of tub, ambient temperature, rate of fuel supply, etc. As a rough guide a 6 person tub with a wall depth of 1m will take approximately 3 hours to heat up. If you use the tub at night and then want to have a dip before breakfast in the morning then it will still be warm. We recommend using one of our covers to keep the heat in during the night.

What type of foundation is required?

By far the best foundation for your hot tub is a base of rough gravel with a concrete top layer. Using this method ensures that there will be no subsidence what so ever when laid correctly. This means that your tub will stay stable and level for the whole of its life. We can help you to plan where your tub will be positioned and give advice on the construction of the foundation. We can also build a foundation for you at a very reasonable price. Typically around £450.

How long will a wooden hot tub last?

Your tub is guaranteed for a full 2 years against defects in materials or workmanship. As we use only the highest quality timber in the construction of our tubs you can expect them to last for up to 25 years when cared for correctly.

What type of maintenance is required?

In order to get the most from your tub and prolong its life, it needs to be cleaned regularly and covered when not in use. The tub should be cleaned with warm soapy water, a stiff sponge or a brush and then rinsed thoroughly with fresh water. The tub should never be left empty for more than two days.  This can temporarily reduce the tubs ability to retain water.

Will the water go cloudy or become discolored?

The best way of keeping the water in your tub clean and hygienic is to replace it after bathing a few times. Using this Norwegian style of bathing allows you to avoid using chemicals in the water which can be harmful to the wood and the environment. Western red cedar and Douglas-fir both contain natural tannins which can change the color of the water. This is completely normal and will dissipate after changing the water a few times.
